Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. ISOLYTE™ has been scientifically formulated around the key principles of oral electrolyte therapy, combining balanced electrolytes, rapidly available energy and betaine to support effective rehydration during periods of fluid loss. Its advanced zero-bicarbonate formulation is designed to complement normal milk feeding, helping calves restore hydration while maintaining nutritional intake. For rearers, this provides confidence in a purpose-designed liquid electrolyte that supports recovery during common calf-rearing challenges and other situations where young livestock require rapid hydration support.

ISOLYTE™ is an advanced liquid energy and electrolyte concentrate developed for young livestock, with calves being its primary application. It provides rapid hydration by replacing fluids and electrolytes lost during dehydration, while supplying readily available energy to help support recovery and continued normal milk feeding. Easy to measure and dilute, ISOLYTE™ delivers fast, practical hydration support that helps young livestock recover sooner, maintain appetite and return to normal growth and performance.

ISOLYTE™ uses sodium acetate rather than sodium bicarbonate or citrate as its primary alkalising agent. Acetate promotes sodium and water absorption, provides an additional energy source and does not interfere with normal milk clotting. This allows electrolyte support to be provided close to milk feeds without unnecessarily disrupting digestion. For rearers, this means simpler feeding management while maintaining the calf's normal energy intake during recovery.

ISOLYTE™ is best fed as a separate electrolyte feed, rather than mixed into milk. A dehydrated young animal requires additional fluid as well as electrolyte replacement, so feeding ISOLYTE™ separately provides the extra water needed for effective rehydration while milk continues to supply essential nutrition. Because ISOLYTE™ contains no sodium bicarbonate or citrate, it can be given immediately before or after milk feeds, making best-practice hydration simple to incorporate into everyday calf-rearing routines.

ISOLYTE™ delivers more than convenient electrolyte replacement. Its scientifically formulated zero-bicarbonate composition supports hydration while allowing continued normal milk feeding, and the inclusion of betaine provides additional support for cellular hydration during periods of dehydration and stress. As a concentrated liquid, ISOLYTE™ is also quick to measure, dilute and prepare, providing consistent mixing without dusty powders or weighing. Together, these features provide rearers with a practical, cost-effective hydration solution that's quick to prepare, easy to use and designed to help young livestock recover sooner.

ISOLYTE™ is recommended whenever young livestock require rapid hydration and electrolyte support, including during scours, dehydration, hot weather/heat stress, transport, weaning, arrival or other periods of nutritional or environmental stress. It may also be used to provide additional energy, fluids and electrolyte support to sheep and other livestock experiencing periods of increased nutritional demand, such as around late pregnancy, lambing or other periods of nutritional demand, as part of an overall management program. Early hydration support helps replace lost fluids and electrolytes before dehydration becomes more severe while supplying rapidly available energy to support recovery and performance.

Betaine is a naturally occurring osmoprotectant that helps cells retain water during periods of dehydration and physiological stress. By supporting cellular hydration and helping maintain gut wall integrity, betaine complements ISOLYTE™'s electrolyte and energy formulation to provide more comprehensive hydration support. For producers, this means an additional layer of support during scours, hot weather/heat stress, transport and other situations where young livestock are vulnerable to fluid and electrolyte loss.
